There are two chairs in the painting. There are empty red boots below the first chair – the boots are covered in blood. They are the boots of the soldier, who didn't get back home. The red duck is sitting on the second chair. The duck is the symbol of femininity, domesticity, maternity. The duck is the mother of the lost soldier, who took on the red color from the boots, and she is getting through the grief at the loss of her son. The action takes place at night, which means deep sorrow. Among the chairs in the sky, there is an enormous key of the sky-blue color, aimed at the ground. This is time – the key to everything, which will open this grief and heal it. The sky-blue color of the key means a new day. The small ducklings under the mother’s chair are of the same color – they are the symbol of the future, where the wounds are healed.
