Art residency Gjutars
1 - 31 May 2024
Vantaa, Finland
The Artist House Gjutars (Taiteilijatalo Gjutars) is located in an old, idyllic culture area in Kuninkaala, Vantaa, near Tikkurila’s railway station, at Vanha Kuninkaalantie 6.
The old wooden house next to the community house Påkas and the painter museum (Maalarimuseo) has been referred to as Galleria Gjutars (Gallery Gjutars). The name derives from the farm that was located at the same spot. The householder in the 17th century was a potter. The original house and the farmhouses were, however, destroyed in a fire in 1945, and the current house was built after the fire. The city of Vantaa gave the house for Vantaan Taiteilijaseura’s use in the late 1990s.
The large property in the middle of nature offers a peaceful, idyllic atmosphere for creating and enjoying art, but also for organising events.
One of the goals of the residency of Vantaan Taiteilijaseura is to offer artists time and space, and a chance to detach themselves from their regular surroundings and obligations. The artists also get the opportunity to acquaint themselves with a new environment, form social connections, and try out new materials. Often, the residency artists can also arrange an exhibition related to the residency.
