Lviv Municipal Art Center

art residency
15 January - 15 March 2025
Lviv, Ukraine

The Lviv Municipal Art Residency from November 2022 aims to ensure the sustainability of artistic practices. The events that take place within its framework help to expand the field of work, focus on a particular project or research, and rethink their own activities. The formats of the events and the areas of artistic activity of the participants will correspond to the diversity of Ukraine's creative space today. The residencies also provide psychological assistance to participants if necessary.
The second major phase of the Municipal Art Residency began in November 2023. Its goal is to provide Ukrainian artists with a space to restore and reflect on their own creative practice, work with their personal archives, and to restart and return to postponed projects.
The residency is primarily aimed at artists who were forced to move to Lviv from the temporarily occupied territories and need space to work on large projects, restore and expand their creative practice. The Lviv Municipal Art Center provides a space that can be used as a studio, a space for interaction in workshops, master classes, etc. and an exhibition space.
Another group of residents are volunteer artists and military personnel, as well as friends of the center involved in helping the Ukrainian army and developing civil society. Their artistic practices are often a continuation or reflection of political practices and civic activism. We believe that the residency in this case will not only be a space of recovery, but also a place where their work can be documented as evidence of “post-invasion creativity” and become a tool for representing Ukraine in the world.
